Dues Letter 2019
January 29, 2019
Dear Pool Member,
We had another successful and challenging season last year. We were able to manage the pool ourselves, as has been done in the past, and continue to attract new members. However, as evidenced by the leak at the beginning of last season, we face the constant challenge of maintaining our aging facilities. The following repairs were made to the pool and facilities last season:
Replace broken pipes that return clean, heated water to the pool
Patching and painting of the wading pool
New motor for the wading pool filtration system
Replaced a broken filter panel for the main pool
Heater repairs for main pool
New fill lines for the main pool
Due to the successful season last year, we were able to complete these repairs, the majority of which were unbudgeted. Based on our projected membership for this season, we will be able to maintain dues at the current amount. This will be the tenth consecutive year that we will not be raising our dues! The board has worked very hard over the last few years to minimize our expenses as much as possible while properly staffing the pool and maintaining our facilities. We will continue to do this.
At our December meeting, the Board unanimously voted to change our senior/single membership category. We are eliminating the current category and creating a new, single membership category. This category will apply to anyone over the age of 19. The dues will be $225/season. Any new member joining under this category will not be required to purchase a bond. This means that only Family memberships will require a bond purchase. This category keeps us competitive with the local municipal pools. Please send any questions or comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We had some major issues with our pool management company, APM, during the 2017 season. The majority included lack of a manager, lack of appropriate guard coverage and unresponsiveness from the management company to our requests regarding these and many other issues. We were able to address most of these issues ourselves last season. We hired a manager and increased guard coverage. We were also able to staff the gate for the majority of the day. We were able to negotiate a favorable settlement from APM due to the very generous help from one of our members, Cynthia Bognar. Thank you Cynthia for all of your help last season!
We are actively recruiting staff for the 2019 season. Positions that need to be filled are lifeguards, gate attendants, and snack bar workers. The pool has both liability and worker’s compensation insurance. Anyone interested in working at the pool this summer should send an email to email@example.com.
As in the past, all pool events, both social and swim team related, will be available on our website. We will be continuing our Friday evening “raft nights” and are planning events for Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. All suggestions for improving the social aspect of our club are welcome. Please send any suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will be continuing our family membership tags this season. All members should have a tag. You will be required to show this to the gate attendants to gain entry to the facility. These tags make it easier for our gate attendants to ensure that only members are entering the pool. If you have lost or misplaced your tags, there is a $5 replacement charge.
Due to yearly expenses that the pool has and to be able to appropriately budget for this season, we are asking all families to pay their dues as soon as possible. As in years past, there will be graduated late fees assessed to families that do not pay their dues by the March 1stdeadline.
The first day of the 2019 season is Saturday, May 25th, with hours from 12:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Your 2019 information packet, including your complimentary guest passes, will be available at the gate when the pool opens. These packets will be available at the gate until Sunday, June 10th. After that date, you will have to make arrangements with the Membership secretary at to obtain your packet.
The pool is continuing to manage the Snack Bar. We were able to purchase a fryer for the Snack Bar and expanded the menu. We have learned a lot over the last 2 seasons and feel we can have more success this season. We are currently looking for staff for the Snack Bar. If interested, please contact email@example.com. Applicants will need to be 15 years or older. As in years past, we will continue to maintain accounts for families that wish to use the Snack Bar. Please watch your email for more updates regarding the Snack Bar as the season approaches. Please support the pool by utilizing the Snack Bar this season.
Also attached to this email are the dues invoice/family roster form and a member survey. Please print out both forms, fill them out and return with your dues payment. We are interested in your opinion and we appreciate your feedback.
We are currently looking for a new attorney to advise the board. In the past, we have had members serve in this capacity and are hoping another member will be interested. If any one is interested or has a contact, please contact the President of the pool at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please watch the web site or pick up forms at the front gate for the following: water aerobics, swim clinics, swim team sign up and swim team sponsorship form.
