Swim Team General Information

Welcome to the 2017 swim season. This handbook is designed to answer many of your questions about swimming with our swim team. Please read through the handbook and keep it handy to refer to as the season progresses.

Requirements: Swimmers must be aged 5 – 18, be a member of Bower Hill Swim Club and be able to swim one length of the pool without stopping. Distances are as follows: 25 meters, for ages 10 and under, 50 meters for 11 and over. Each swimmer is placed in an age group based upon his/her age on June 1.

Practices: The first practice of the 2017 season is Wednesday, May 31 from 7-8PM. The team will practice from 7 – 8 pm Mon – Thurs every week during the season.  There is no practice on the day of a meet. Meets happen during the week and in the evening. We only have limited practice time…please be ready to participate by the start of practice. Swimmers who attend practices on a regular basis improve their swimming, feel a part of the team and gain confidence in their swimming and meet participation.

Competition: Each swim meet offers a variety of events and distances, depending on the age group. Each swimmer can compete in 2 events in any meet, 3 events to avoid scratching an event. Coaches will determine the events the swimmers swim.

DUAL MEETS: ALL SWIMMERS PARTICIPATE.

Ribbons will be available after home meets and at the next practice following an away meet. Generally, the coaches will distribute the ribbons, however, if you have missed a practice you may collect them at your next practice or meet. The ribbons record the event, meet and time achieved.
